Another Source’s client, Sabey Corporation, is recruiting a Tax Manager to join their Seattle, WA team. Here’s a little about Sabey Corporation and the position they are recruiting for: 


The Tax Manager is an experienced and motivated tax professional who is responsible for tax planning, reporting, and compliance functions for income, excise, property, and all other taxes. Working with outside tax partners, one must be able to evaluate the tax implications of company activities and develop strategies to minimize tax obligations. Additionally, the Tax Manager will advise management on changes to tax regulations and related potential impacts. The Tax Manager is the lead point of contact with service providers and advisors and is responsible for directing those relationships. The Tax Manager reports to the CFO with a dotted line to the Controller. 


Job Overview: 

The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented team player who oversees all areas of tax and is responsible for  implementing tax plans. This position works closely with accounting and leadership to identify opportunities for process improvement and to mitigate potential areas of risk. The Tax Manager will ensure compliance with state, federal, and international tax law through a series of systems and system controls that are designed to ensure accurate and timely reporting for income, excise, property, and other taxes. The Tax Manager will monitor current and impending changes to tax regulation and make the appropriate updates to policies and strategies. Additionally, the Tax Manager will work to proactively identify tax issues and propose solutions.  The optimal candidate is single minded in their pursuit of ensuring compliance and achieves this goal through optimizing reporting procedures and being a key strategic and operational component of the Accounting and Finance team.  


Specific Responsibilities:   

  • Facilitate and manage the preparation and review of company federal and state tax returns.   
  • Ensure accurate, timely filing of consolidated federal, state, and local income tax returns along with other business-related filings including excise tax, property tax, and other local taxes.  
  • Responsible for monthly and quarterly estimated tax payment computations and monthly tax account reconciliations.  
  • Find and implement opportunities for process improvement in company tax procedures.  
  • Develop and implement strategic tax planning for all necessary federal and state taxes.  
  • Plan for and develop overall return calendar as well as coordinate timing and inputs with accounting team.  
  • Organize and track various private and public investments for tax and GAAP purposes.   
  • Maintain effective control procedures over all aspects of the tax process.  
  • Manage and facilitate tax audits: preparing responses, creating schedules, etc.  
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory tax law developments, communicate the effects of these developments to management and the accounting team, and create strategies to capitalize on changes to taxation legislation.  
  • Prepare and review quarterly/yearly tax projections.  
  • Communicate status of assigned work to the CFO and Controller. Initiate timely action on technical, scheduling, and other tax related matters while bringing recommendations to the CFO’S attention.  
  • Other non-tax related accounting activity as assigned.  


Minimum Qualifications:  

  • Requires 5 years of directly related experience and 3+ years of managerial experience.   
  • Extensive individual, corporate, and partnership tax knowledge.  
  • Strong accounting, analytical, and research skills.  
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.  
  • Ability to work independently on multiple assignments under deadlines, set priorities and work schedule, and have a willingness to accept new responsibilities.  
  • Capable of resolving escalated issues and effectively coordinate with other departments.  
  • Familiarity with the tax code and U.S. federal, state, and local reporting requirements.  
  • Experience with a variety of tax operations and ability to drive process improvements.  
  • Ability to utilize project management and accounting best practices to organize and prioritize tasks and the tasks of other accounting team members.  
  • Capacity to work well independently as well as the ability to work well with stakeholders and communicate the benefits of tax initiatives.  
  • Solid organizational and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work closely and collaborate with others in a manner that recognizes the importance of teamwork.  
  • Preferred candidates have a current CPA license and a Bachelors ’s degree in an accounting discipline. The Tax Manager must be proficient with the following software/tools:  
  • Strong skills and experience with Word, Outlook, Excel   
  • Familiarity with CCH Axcess, Yardi, RIA Checkpoint, and BNA Fixed Assets.
