We foster a culture where people who are humble, hungry, and smart are truly valued, supported, and promoted from within. Sabey is deeply committed to being a responsible community partner, returning unused energy to grids and collaborating with local utilities for sustainable impact. While competitors may offer higher salaries, few can match Sabey's positive culture, purpose-driven mission, and long-term career growth opportunities.

About This Role

As the Data Center Electrical Project Engineer, you will join Sabey's Data Center Design team and support the design, operation, and continuous improvement of mission-critical electrical infrastructure. Working alongside internal teams and external engineering partners, you'll help ensure electrical systems are reliable, efficient, constructable, and aligned with applicable codes and Sabey's design standards.

This role offers broad exposure to the systems that keep data centers running—from medium- and low-voltage distribution to UPS systems, generators, switchgear, and power system studies. It's an opportunity for an electrical engineer with 3+ years of experience to deepen their mission-critical expertise while contributing to projects from early design through commissioning and turnover to operations.

Your Contribution Will Likely Include

  • Supporting electrical system design for new and expanding data center projects, including medium- and low-voltage distribution, UPS systems, standby generators, switchgear, and associated infrastructure.
  • Partnering with Architecture & Engineering (A&E) firms to ensure designs align with Owner Project Requirements (OPR), Sabey design standards, and project specifications.
  • Developing and maintaining electrical design standards, technical specifications, and engineering guidelines.
  • Participating in equipment sizing and selection, technical evaluations, and design optimization.
  • Reviewing engineering drawings, calculations, specifications, and studies for technical accuracy, completeness, constructability, and compliance.
  • Maintaining facility electrical models and supporting arc flash hazard analyses, protective device coordination studies, and other power system analyses.
  • Providing engineering support for infrastructure improvements, capacity expansions, modernization projects, and energy-efficiency initiatives.
  • Supporting reliability engineering efforts, including failure investigations, root cause analyses, lifecycle planning, and recommendations to improve system redundancy and resiliency.
  • Collaborating with operations, commissioning, construction, controls, mechanical engineering, and external consultants throughout project execution.
  • Supporting commissioning, functional testing, startup activities, and turnover to operations.
  • Staying current with applicable codes, industry standards, and emerging technologies related to mission-critical electrical infrastructure.
  • Traveling to job sites as needed and safely navigating active construction environments.

Experience You Will Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • 3+ years of electrical design or project engineering experience within commercial, industrial, mission-critical, or data center facilities.
  • Working knowledge of low- and medium-voltage power distribution systems, including switchgear, transformers, generators, UPS systems, transfer switches, panelboards, grounding, feeders, and branch circuits.
  • Ability to support electrical calculations, equipment sizing, single-line diagram development, construction documents, submittal reviews, RFI responses, and construction administration.
  • Understanding of electrical power systems and core electrical engineering principles.
  • Ability to coordinate electrical design across mechanical, architectural, structural, civil, controls, telecom, fire protection, and construction disciplines.
  • Familiarity with data center redundancy, resiliency, maintainability, and critical power distribution concepts.
  • Strong analytical, engineering, mathematical reasoning, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams, consultants, and business partners.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects in a fast-paced environment without compromising quality.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and Microsoft Project.
  • Commitment to continuous learning, including a willingness to learn and utilize AI tools and emerging technologies.
  • Familiarity with the National Electrical Code (NEC), IEEE standards, and NFPA 70E is preferred.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or progress toward Professional Engineer (PE) licensure is preferred.
  • Exposure to electrical power system studies, commissioning, or reliability engineering is preferred.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit, SKM, or similar engineering software is a plus.
